The American Red Cross always there...
touching more lives, in new ways...
under the same trusted symbol.

The Sioux Empire Chapter is your local Red Cross in southeastern South Dakota. Operating around
the clock, every day of the year, the Chapter provides disaster preparedness and relief, health and safety education, international tracing and services to military personnel and their families.

Into the hands of dedicated Red Cross volunteers are entrusted the cares and concerns of all Sioux
Empire citizens. For more than eighty years we have met this challenge and will continue to do
so in the future. The Sioux Empire can depend on the Red Cross to be at the forefront by responding
to an emergency, educating the public on disaster preparedness, and promoting the health and
safety of its people.

Hiring Regional Development Officer

AMERICAN RED CROSS
Position Announcement

The American Red Cross is conducting a search for a dynamic, collaborative and experienced Chief Development Officer (CDO) to develop and implement a comprehensive fund development plan for the Eastern South Dakota Region. This position is responsible for significant revenue generation; two thirds of the CDO's time is comprised of face to face direct donor cultivation and solicitation.

We are seeking candidates who are sophisticated leaders of high intelligence and energy, with the desire to work with people and who demonstrate the ability and desire to engage in relationship-based fundraising activities. Candidates should be creative visionaries, exceptional communicators, collaborative team builders and proactive leaders with financial acumen and a passion for the mission of the American Red Cross.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in fundraising, including major gift fundraising, as well as demonstrated success with assessing, planning and implementing fund-raising strategies for ongoing and emerging operations, capital campaigns, and endowment campaigns. Candidates will have strong leadership abilities, strong people management and team development skills as well as the ability to manage complex projects. Candidates should hold a four year college degree (BS/BA), in the field of business administration, community planning, nonprofit management or marketing; a Master's degree is preferred. An understanding of the unique culture and diversity dynamics of rural communities is desired. The ability to regularly travel within the region, and occasionally travel nationally, is required.

Yankton Red Cross
The Yankton Red Cross office provides residents of Yankton County with disaster relief from house
fires, floods, blizzards, or other types of disasters, emergency messaging from military dependents
to their military loved one wherever in the world, and teaching life-saving health and safety classes
such as CPR, First Aid, swimming lessons and babysitting classes. In 2004, the Yankton Board of
Directors decided the office should become a service office rather than a chapter. The Sioux Empire
Board of Directors agreed to administer the Yankton office, but with all services, programs and
fundraising accomplished by the Yankton Red Cross. An advisory board provides guidance to the
activities of the Yankton office while the Sioux Empire Board of Directors provide governance and
final decisions. The part-time staff of the Yankton Red Cross report to the Sioux Empire Red Cross.
